USER EXPERIENCE
Dycom Industries, Inc. develops and deploys various apps and digital solutions for the company's telecom construction subsidiaries. Several years ago, I led an effort to discover how we were impacting the subsidiary business leaders and users. A thorough investigation exposed that a strong technical solution doesn't always satisfy our "customers" expectations. From this very conclusion, a colleague and I presented the idea of building a user experience team... and as they say, the rest is history :)

For the past five years, my UX team has grown to ten employees and we have been involved in the research and design of over 30 solutions.
UX RESEARCH
As a UX research team, we collect quantitative and qualitative data to formulate important insights. These insights drive business decisions, interface and workflow designs, and even ways to address user sentiment.

The research process includes -
Identify business objectives & defining research goal
Conduct generative interview
Establish user personas, user journeys, operational workflows
Study information architecture and establishing content strategy
Perform usability testing on prototypes and high fidelity designs
Deliver insights to business stakeholders and solution designer
UX DESIGN
The solutions we design rely on our custom design system because it was built with our specific audience motivations, constraints, and environments in mind. We leverage the design systems standards while also adapting what is necessary as a response to research insights.

The design process includes -
Low fidelity concepts (sketches/wireframes)
Design sessions to ideate and collect varying perspectives on a potential solution
Mid fidelity prototype to provide to researcher for testing
Iterative design until final solution can be delivered
UX ANALYSIS
We like to take our design assessment one step beyond the delivery of the design. Because the adoption of our products directly relates to the success of our very own company, we like to measure how well we actually did.

The analysis includes -
Measure the business outcomes in comparison to the original state
Collect passive analytics on solution usage and activities
Conduct engagement interviews and surveys to understand user sentiment
